Job Description

The Department of Humanities at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in History of Asia and the World, broadly defined, beginning fall 2023. The department seeks a candidate with the ability to teach and research in East Asia, Southeast Asia, or Asian American history, but period and area of specialization are open. The teaching load is 4/4 with a 1/1 release for research and creative activity. The position is a 9-month appointment. The successful candidate will teach upper division courses in Asian history, two sections of US history survey each semester, and undergraduate and/or graduate courses in their area of specialization.

TAMU-CC History faculty are expected to teach, conduct scholarly research, and serve the academy through departmental, college, university, and professional service. Successful candidates will be expected to work with diverse colleagues and community members in order to foster student success, especially among underrepresented and first-generation students.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in History or related field. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred by time of appointment.

• Ability to teach courses in East Asia, Southeast Asia, or Asian American history as well as US history surveys.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the ability to work with underrepresented and/or first-generation students.

• Promising research agenda.
