The College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Contemporary History beginning August 2023. Preference will be given to applicants with a focus in any of the following: African-American studies; human rights; economic development; immigration/migration; sustainability; science, medicine, and/or technology; international affairs; or public diplomacy. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level, potential teaching excellence at the graduate level, and an active scholarly agenda. The successful candidate will teach 6 courses per year: A combination of general education course selections (including The Modern World, US History, History of Science, Technology and Medicine, or The History of Sport & Society) and upper-level courses that contribute to the development of our curriculum and complement current departmental and college programs including the Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, Southern Studies, Cultural Heritage, and Interdisciplinary Studies. The preferred candidate will hold a PhD in history with a qualification or certificate in the relevant field(s). Applicants with expertise in public history, digital history, or oral history are particularly encouraged to apply as we seek to prepare students for a job market increasingly defined by technology and public engagement.
