The Department of Black Studies at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Black Studies beginning in August 2023 specializing in Education. The primary responsibility will be to teach courses within the Department of Black Studies including the required courses for the Black Studies Education Concentration: BLK370 Education in the Black Community, BLK357 Psychology of the Black Child, BLK396 Black English: Language and Culture, and BLK100 Intro to Black Studies.
The teaching load is typically three courses per semester. Those with specialties in the areas of Black Education and Black Psychology are especially encouraged to apply. The Department is open as to the applicant’s field of research interest; however, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate and maintain a strong research agenda and portfolio which expands the political aims of Black Studies and the praxis of Black liberation. SUNY New Paltz is committed to identifying scholars doing path-breaking research on Blackness and who will enhance the university’s direction in this area. We invite applications from scholars who are committed to the interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary study of Blackness and are making critical, cutting-edge interventions in the field. Candidates are expected to advise students, to provide service to the college as well as to contribute to the life and work of Black Studies within the campus community of SUNY New Paltz.
