DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE CULTURE
Research Assistant Professor in Material Culture and Museum Studies (Ref. 221024007)
The Department of Chinese Culture is an academic department within the Faculty of Humanities. Its mission is to offer high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that provide interdisciplinary training in the study of Chinese history and culture, with a focus on the areas of Chinese Classics, Literature, History, Philosophy, Religion and Arts. Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Bilingual Interdisciplinary Chinese Studies, a minor degree programme in Chinese Culture, and university-wide general education courses. We look for a scholar who specialises in material culture and/or museum studies of any historical periods of China/Asia, with a focus on areas such as heritage conservation, archaeology, and cultural management. Applicants with an expertise in cultural heritage on the Silk Roads are highly preferred but not mandatory.
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
(c) contribute to departmental service;
(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a doctoral degree in a related discipline;
(b) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;
(c) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and
(d) have an excellent command of both English and Chinese.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for three years initially, with possibility of extension for another three years.
