The Honors College at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time lecturer to begin in Fall 2023. Scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates with the ability to offer core curriculum seminars in US history, political science, or American Studies. Applications are encouraged from scholars whose teaching interests contribute to our growing minors in African-American, Latina/o, Diversity, and Women’s Studies. The initial term of appointment is one academic year with the possibility of renewal and advancement based on performance. All positions are subject to availability of funds.
The successful candidate will teach three courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring. Their primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in our general education “core” curriculum, but they may also propose new topics courses in their area of specialization. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the service mission and intellectual life of the Honors College by leading or creating co-curricular programs in Honors.
About the Honors College:The Honors College allows highly-motivated undergraduates at Texas State to enhance their studies with small, seminar-style courses in an intimate and engaging learning environment. Honors courses are taught by some of Texas State’s top faculty and are designed for students in all disciplines and at all stages of their studies. These courses include introductory-level seminars that satisfy general education requirements, upper-division courses on advanced topics, self-styled independent study and contract courses, unique study abroad opportunities, and the honors capstone. The Honors College also serves all undergraduates and the university as a whole by supporting undergraduate research, mentoring students applying for national fellowships and graduate programs, and encouraging faculty to develop innovative, interdisciplinary courses.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or terminal degree in their field by start date. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate how they can take advantage of the small size of honors courses to offer interactive, engaging and challenging experiences for students.
Preferred Qualifications
Materials submitted by the candidate should demonstrate or explain their:
- Ability to teach in the American history or American government core curriculum areas;
- Ability to offer courses in new topic areas that will diversify the honors curriculum or meet other curricular needs;
- Experience teaching small seminars in an honors environment or a background with innovative, student-centered teaching and interactive classroom strategies;
- Experience leading co-curricular academic programs at the undergraduate level.
