The Department of History at California State University, Fresno invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in post-1800 European History, with a primary focus on either France or Germany. Candidates with a transnational focus are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will develop and offer undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise and teach the department’s U.S. and/or World History surveys. The standard teaching load is 4/4 and is typically reduced during the first two years of the appointment, with competitive course releases available thereafter. The successful candidate will also maintain an active research and publishing agenda and a commitment to student advising and university service.

Required Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in History by the start of the Fall 2023 semester is required for appointment to a tenure-track position
- Teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
- An active research agenda
- A commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in transnational approaches
- Interest in gender, race, and/or ethnicity studies
- Ability to teach introductory-level courses in U.S. and/or World History

About the College and Department:
The Department of History at California State University, Fresno employs 13 tenure-track and tenured professors who serve hundreds of undergraduate majors and graduate students. We are an intellectually active department with expertise in a range of fields and publications in both academic and trade presses. Our faculty engages with the public by writing op-ed pieces for local and national newspapers and working with public radio and community organizations. Our graduate students go on to teach at high schools and community colleges, pursue careers in museums and archives, and continue their education in Ph.D. programs.
