The Department of History, Humanities, and International Studies invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of History to contribute to the interdisciplinary MA and BS programs in Diplomacy and Military Studies. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in U.S. Diplomatic History and Foreign Relations. Candidates who can also teach in the general area of security studies and/or terrorism/counter-terrorism, are also encouraged to apply. Preference is for candidates with a regional specialization or knowledge of, and teaching ability in, the Indo-Asia-Pacific or Middle East. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in History (or a closely related discipline) OR a Master's degree in History (or a closely related discipline) combined with professional experience commensurate to a doctorate (i.e. a credentialed diplomat or senior government service). Candidates may also be required to teach in the undergraduate BA History and BA International Studies programs.
The successful candidate is required to maintain competence in the academic field by remaining current in their own and related disciplines and in the most effective instructional methods. The successful candidate will demonstrate effectiveness in the synthesis, interpretation, and communication of new knowledge.
In addition to instructional and scholarly activity, the successful candidate will participate in commencement, convocations and other university-wide events, and department and collegiate meetings in the week before the start of academic terms. Faculty presence and engagement is expected during academic terms that faculty have teaching responsibilities.
This is a full-time position with up to 24 credits of teaching over the academic year that runs from mid-August to mid-May.
