The Department of History at The College of Idaho invites applications from engaging and passionate teachers for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Latin American history, beginning in fall 2023. We seek candidates whose teaching, research, and service will contribute to our commitment to an equitable and inclusive learning and work environment.
The successful candidate will teach Civilization and Modern Latin America surveys (offered every year), and an advanced course on Mexico (offered every other year). Faculty members have considerable freedom to shape offerings according to interest and specializations. Candidates with demonstrated evidence and interest in offering a variety of advanced courses covering the breadth of Latin American history, as well as off-campus courses to Latin America, are preferred. Teaching load is 3-1-3. The department values candidates who have experience working with and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds. Thirty percent of the students at The College of Idaho are first generation attendees, 15 percent are Latinx, and 20 percent are international students representing over 90 countries. Generous professional development support for research, conference travel, and sabbatical leave is available.
A strong commitment to undergraduate Liberal Arts education and demonstrated successful teaching experience is essential; successful candidates will also have an active research agenda. The successful candidate will join a student-centered department where teaching and mentoring are valued as the highest priority. A PhD in History or a related field at the time of appointment is required. Area of research specialization is open. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States as of the expected hire date and throughout the date of the contract without sponsorship from the College.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified and asked to provide three letters of reference, student evaluations, a statement of teaching philosophy, a writing sample, and a separate statement describing how your commitment to diversity and inclusion are demonstrated in your teaching, scholarship, or service. Review of applications will begin on October 15 and continue until the position is filled.

One can explore the area’s continuing agricultural legacy with the AgVenture and Sunnyslope Wine Trails located among scenic orchards in the Snake River Plain. A wide range of outdoors activities can be found with the combination of mountain, river, forest, and desert landscapes in the vicinity, including hiking, biking, skiing, whitewater rafting, camping, or exploring the hot springs.
