In late 2021 Johns Hopkins SAIS has created the Alperovitch Institute for Cybersecurity Studies, a leading center of excellence in research and education on cybersecurity and policy. The Institute’s goal is to attract the best students, leading scholars, experienced practitioners, and additional benefactors to create the preeminent academic institution producing paradigm-shifting, impactful research and instruction at the intersection of cybersecurity, technology, intelligence, and politics. Position:
We are seeking highly qualified candidates with impressive scholarly accomplishments and an established reputation as innovative educators. Successful candidates must have a PhD, a distinguished publication record in the wider field of cybersecurity studies and adjacent subjects such artificial intelligence, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and a track record in developing and shaping innovative research projects in technology and security policy.
Qualifications
Furthermore, the successful candidate would ideally possess some or all of the following
- the strong technical skills,
- a demonstrated record and ability to communicate technical subjects to non-technical audiences,
- an established presence in the public square, such as Congressional testimony,
- a successful record of fundraising for major gifts,
- experience with institution-building and curriculum development,
- established working relationships with key players in the private threat intelligence community.
In addition, government service, experience in executive education, and experience in working with high-profile media work will be viewed favorably.
The position is at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure and is focused on research and teaching in equal terms. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three (3) courses per year. In addition, responsibilities include acting as an academic adviser to students interested in cybersecurity, overseeing capstones and honors exams, participating in dissertation committees, and helping organize the Alperovitch Institute-oriented extracurricular activities. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
