Assistant Professor, African American History

The Department of History at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of African American history to begin July 1, 2023. The department especially encourages applications from scholars with expertise in Public and/or Digital history. The chronological period for this search is open. We seek a scholar with a dynamic research agenda and a commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching.

The position is part of a School of Arts and Sciences cluster initiative focused on hiring scholars who do path-breaking research in Black Studies. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of History (https://www.sas.rochester.edu/his/). In addition, candidates will have numerous opportunities for research and teaching collaborations and interactions with the Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies.

Candidates are expected to teach courses on their research specialization, in addition to the two-part survey course in African American history and to also contribute broadly to the curriculum. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester (2:2 load). Qualifications

- Ph.D. in History or related field

- ABD candidates must have Ph.D. in hand by June 30, 2023.
