Brown University's Department of Religious Studies invites applications for an open rank appointment in Hindu Studies to fill the Das Chair in South Asian Studies. We seek a colleague well-versed in Hindu worlds of South Asia in close conversation with the study of religion. Applicants' work may be historical, philological, literary, or ethnographic, pertaining to any region and research language in South Asia. A topical specialization in the study of gender in the period since 1500 CE is preferred. Applicants must have the PhD by the beginning of the appointment. The application must include: cover letter; curriculum vitae; the names of three references whom the department may contact; and a writing sample.
