POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:
The History Department invites applications for three tenure-track positions:
1. A specialist in the history of race and ethnicity in the United States. Candidates who focus on the twentieth-century, especially civil rights issues, are preferred. The successful applicant will be hired as an Assistant Professor (or a non-tenured Associate Professor as appropriate) and expected to teach a survey course in modern world history or American naval history as part of the institution’s core curriculum. They will also offer upper level courses in areas of specialization, as well as majors-only seminars.

2. A specialist in the history of the ancient Mediterranean. Candidates who focus on the history of ancient Greece and/or Rome are preferred. The successful applicant will be hired as an Assistant Professor and expected to teach a survey course in premodern world history as part of the institution’s core curriculum. They will also offer upper level courses in areas of specialization, as well as majors-only seminars.

3. A specialist in the history of modern Russia and Eastern Europe. Candidates who focus on the history of this region in the twentieth century and the Soviet period are preferred. The successful applicant will be hired as an Assistant Professor and expected to teach a survey course in modern world history as part of the institution’s core curriculum. They will also offer upper level courses in areas of specialization, as well as majors-only seminars.
