The University of Chicago invites applications at rank Assistant Instructional Professor in the Department of History. This is a new, full-time, teaching position. The initial appointment is for a three-year term, beginning on or after September 1, 2023, renewable based on a performance review. The salary is competitive and includes benefits.
The successful candidate will teach a total of six courses. Four of these six courses will be research- and writing-based courses in support of the department’s BA thesis program. The other two will be split between historiography classes and courses of the candidate’s devising, in consultation with the Undergraduate Studies Committee. In addition, the successful candidate will assist the Undergraduate Studies Committee with the overall functioning of the BA thesis program. This will include advising undergraduates on their projects, course development and coordination between thesis instructors, planning events, and program development and coordination. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees Union (SEIU) and the University.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree in History by the start of the appointment and have a record of undergraduate teaching experience.
