The University of Chicago invites applications for Senior Instructional Professors at rank Assistant, Associate, or Full in the Department of History. This is a new, full-time position with responsibilities spanning administration, teaching, and advising. The initial appointment is for a three-year term, beginning on or after September 1, 2023, renewable based on a performance review. The salary is competitive and includes benefits.
The successful candidate will serve as a member of the department’s Undergraduate Studies Committee, and will administer the undergraduate program of the History Department under the guidance of the departmental Chair and faculty Director of Undergraduate Studies. This includes overseeing Instructional Professors and Teaching Fellows, managing and coordinating history department courses; and attending to cohort experience, disciplinary training, and curricular innovation. The SIP is also expected to teach four courses per year, distributed over 3 quarters. Finally, the SIP will advise history majors and minors in navigating course and curriculum options on the way to graduation.
The department is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the training of History majors and minors by teaching courses on modern US and European social history, gender history, or the history of human rights.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD in History and have a record of undergraduate teaching and administrative experience.
