The Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) is offering a Postdoctoral Associate position of one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three-years duration, in the Research Department. This project-orientated position is for candidates who have completed their PhD. Candidates who have completed their PhD outside the field of British Art as well as those who studied British Art are welcome to apply. The PhD must be completed by the time the position begins and it is expected that the postholder will pursue long-term professional employment during the period of hire.
The Postdoctoral Associate will report to the Associate Director of Research, contribute to the activities of the wider Research Department, and collaborate with colleagues across the museum. Following the example of the Elihu Yale Portrait Research Project, the Postdoctoral Associate will undertake in-depth, collaborative research on works in the YCBA collections with specific attention given to issues of authorship, provenance, and the individual identities of sitters. The Postdoctoral Associate they will develop scholarly programs in support of collections exhibitions, publications, and research. The postholder will receive training in archival, biographical, and provenance research methodologies. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to audit classes at Yale University to further build their knowledge.
