The Bildner Visiting Scholar position brings a scholar specializing in Jewish studies to Rutgers–New Brunswick to impact and expand the outreach objectives of the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life and the educational mission of Rutgers.
The Bildner Visiting Scholar position for academic year 2022–23 is envisioned for the period of October 1, 2022-June 30, 2023. Applicants should be able to demonstrate programming experience as well as scholarly expertise in the fields of modern Jewish history (and Judeophobia), African-American history, and anti-black racism. The Bildner Visiting Scholar must be at the associate or full professor level.
The Visiting Scholar will take a lead role in planning and attending seminars and mini-courses in these areas to expand the role of the Bildner Center in the division of diversity, equity and inclusion for various populations at Rutgers including faculty, administrators, and the public. The seminars will delve into the complex pasts of the Jewish and African-American communities, and on the intersections among anti-black racism, antisemitism, and white supremacy. The scholar will be responsible for working with the Center’s leadership to plan an immersive field trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Museum of African American History. The scholar may also give a faculty/graduate student seminar related to their scholarly research in collaboration with the Department of Jewish Studies. The planning for the initiative and for a public-facing on-line mini-course for the public can be fulfilled partly remotely. The programs and seminars and the immersive field experience will be in-person.
The stipend for this position is $50,000.
