Pacific University Oregon, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Modern Japanese history beginning in the Fall of 2022. The teaching load is 5 courses per year. Fall 2022 classes include First Year Seminar, 200-level History of the Pacific World, and 300-level Japanese Empire. Course rotations should vary in East Asian history and the Asia-Pacific Studies minor.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in history by the position start date. Applicants must show evidence and/or promise of excellence in teaching students from diverse backgrounds. Successful candidates will have experience and interest in: (1) working with students from marginalized backgrounds (first generation, students of color, LGBTQ+, etc.), (2) student-centered, liberal arts teaching in a residential college context, (3) experiential and relationship-based teaching, and (4) teaching outside of the discipline or area. Candidates should have a plan for scholarship development & demonstrate potential for peer review publication in a liberal arts context. Pacific particularly values experience and interest in developing undergraduate research. Applicants must be authorized to accept employment in the United States.
