FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Africana, Puerto Rican and Latino Studies (https://hunter.cuny.edu/artsci/africana-and-puerto-rican-latino-studies/) at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for a position at the rank of Doctoral Lecturer specializing in African American History. This is a full-time appointment with a renewable contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service after 5 years. The position will begin August 2022.
Located on the 68th Street campus on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the Department of Africana, Puerto Rican and Latino Studies offers students a critical understanding of the political, cultural, social and ideological forces that have shaped the experiences of people of African, Puerto Rican and Latinx diasporas. Hunter College has both a teaching and a research mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach several introductory, intermediate, and advanced level courses in the interdisciplinary field
Africana Studies.
Teach established course offerings for undergraduate students to fulfill requirements including, Introduction to Africana Studies, a two-semester survey of African American History, with the first semester covering the U.S. American colonial period to the Civil War, and the second semester focusing on 1865 to the present. Pursue professional development to remain current with scholarship in areas of teaching responsibility and contribute to long-term curricular offerings in the department. Advise students and serve on programmatic, departmental, divisional, and college committees as needed.
The position includes a teaching load of 24 credits per academic year (eight 3-credit courses). Allocation for student advising and service may be counted towards the teaching load.

QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this position, applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in History, (or a related field such as Africana Studies, African American Studies or American Studies) with a specialization in African American History.
Demonstrated pedagogical success, scholarship or achievement, and an ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The following qualifications are preferred: knowledge of the global African diaspora, strong student and peer evaluations, and a record of service, and commitment to mentoring students.
COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience within the range of title ($54,177-$94,851).
