The Department of History at the University of Iowa has an opening for 2022-23 academic year for a 75% Visiting Assistant Professor in African American history. The successful candidate will offer three courses each semester, including both halves of an introductory survey of African American history. Candidates will be prepared to teach upper-level classes on topics such as History of Slavery in the United States, Civil War and Reconstruction, or the Civil Rights Movement, as well as courses tailored to their own research specialization.
This is a one-year, non-tenure track position, with possibility of renewal up to three years. Candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach a range of African American history courses. The selected candidate must have the Ph.D. in hand by August 15, 2022. The University of Iowa requires all new faculty complete a Criminal Background Check and Credential Check.
