The African American Studies Program at the University of Florida is searching for the inaugural Dr. Patricia Hillard-Nunn Visiting Assistant Professor of African American Studies. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure accruing position beginning August 16, 2022. Dr. Hilliard-Nunn served as a senior lecturer in the African American Studies Program and was a leader in African American community engagement in the Greater Gainesville Community.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the research, teaching, and service missions of the African American Studies Program and will have a 100% appointment in the program. The teaching assignment is two courses per semester and the applicant must be able to teach one of our required courses – Introduction to African American Studies and Key Issues in Black Atlantic Thought. We are also seeking candidates with an active research agenda and a desire to contribute to the scholarly development of the program. The area of specialty is broadly defined but we are seeking candidates with expertise in racial health inequities, African American community studies, or public policy. Applicants with a Ph.D. in African American Studies are preferred or a terminal degree in a related field are welcome.
Established in 1969, the African American Studies Program offers a major and minor. This interdisciplinary program offers a diverse array of courses, with a growing number of students majoring in African American Studies. More information about the program can be found at: http://afam.clas.ufl.edu.
