The Division of Humanities and the Library at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) are searching for a suitable candidate to fill a joint teaching-track and library-administrative position in Digital Humanities (DH).
The DH Specialist will coordinate a new DH Workshop at HKUST. The appointee will administer faculty seed grants, coordinate training, and help preserve DH projects. He/She will be a change agent, partner, educator, and resource person in facilitating and promoting DH projects at HKUST. Responsibilities include assisting faculty members to conceptualize, design, and curate DH projects; advising and training students to gain research experience in supporting faculty DH projects; collaborating with the Library’s teams to develop digital scholarship initiatives; teaching courses; and coordinating with peer institutions in Hong Kong to build a vibrant DH community.
Applicants should have a doctorate in humanities, social science, library and information science, or other areas relevant to the position. Applicants should possess a combination of credentials and experience in both the textual side and the technical side of DH research, including but not limited to data analysis and visualization, text and data mining, scripting languages, GIS, web development technologies, and virtual exhibition design. Strong candidates should have a rich knowledge and keen awareness of emerging tools, methods, and techniques in DH. Ability to read Chinese is a plus, but is not a requirement for this position. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
