Position: | Post-Doctoral Fellow |
Israeli Teaching Exchange Postdoctoral Fellow of Contemporary Israel
Job Description
Situated at the nexus of the Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience and the Department of Jewish Studies, Tulane University seeks an Israeli Teaching Exchange Postdoctoral Fellow of Contemporary Israel whose scholarship lies at the intersection of politics, public policy, international relations, and/or other fields. The ideal candidate’s research and teaching will bridge the American Jewish experience and Israel Studies.
This scholar will explore contemporary Israel from multiple angles, including its vital relationship with the United States and the world community. American Jewish politics and America’s relationship with Israel are both calling out for deeper scholarly analysis. The two largest concentrations of Jews in the world are in the U.S. and Israel; both populations have commonalities, but also major differences. What do these differences mean for the Jewish world—politically, economically, and socially—both for these two communities separately and then in relation to one another?
The successful candidate will be housed in the Department of Jewish Studies and will also be affiliated with the Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience. The position is subject to annual renewal for a maximum of three years, contingent upon the interest and agreement of the Fellow and the University to continue the relationship.
Requirements:
The Fellow must have expertise in modern Israel as demonstrated by a dissertation or at least two peer reviewed publications about modern Israel, and by experience in university teaching about modern Israel. The Fellow must also have a PhD from an accredited university by the first day of the first term of their appointment.
About the Program:
The Israeli Teaching Exchange Program places academics, with the interest and expertise to teach about modern Israel, at colleges and universities in the United States for multi-year placements. These placements provide scholars with the opportunity to teach, conduct research, and build academic networks.
Over the course of an academic year, Teaching Fellows teach at least four full-term, three-credit, undergraduate-level courses as well as organize a minimum of four academic/community events. At least three of the courses and all four of the events must be related to modern Israel.
