The History Program at the University of the Fraser Valley in the College of Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position in colonial and post-colonial East Asian History at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 1, 2022. This would be a full-time position located in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. The University of the Fraser Valley is a fully accredited, post-secondary institution with a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence.
The successful candidate in this position will be asked to teach introductory East Asian history and upper division courses in their research areas. Specialists in the modern and/or pre-modern eras of Chinese or Japanese national histories are encouraged to apply as well as scholars versed in trans-national and/or comparative East Asian colonial and post-colonial pasts. The ability to teach and mentor undergraduate students outside of research specializations will be expected. Evidence of scholarly achievement in research and writing as well as proof of undergraduate teaching excellence is required. Demonstrated experience in technology-supported teaching (e.g. hybrid, on-line, and computer-assisted learning) and the ability to engage students in technology-enhanced learning is also required, along with positive teaching experiences in face-to-face classroom settings. Candidates will be expected to initiate, support, and work on community-engaged teaching and learning initiatives in local, national, and regional settings.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess a PhD in History (or relevant field – in hand or expected by September 1st), with a specialization in colonial and postcolonial East Asian History; evidence of successful teaching experience; and an on-going program of research.
