The Chao Center for Asian Studies (CCAS) at Rice University is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Transnational Asian American Studies to begin July 1, 2022 (pending further approval). We are particularly interested in scholars whose research engages in Asian American studies from transnational and comparative perspectives. Preference will be given to scholarship focusing on contemporary issues of race in the U.S. and across the Pacific, with possible fields/interests including but not limited to: Asian Studies, Asian American Studies, ethnic studies, immigration/diaspora, race relations, inclusion and equity, sexuality and gender, indigenous studies.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in hand by July 1, 2022. Job responsibilities: (1) Teaching two classes per year, and (2) Active participation in the Chao Center’s Transnational Asia Research Initiative (TARI) leading to one public seminar and two publishable articles per year.
The annual stipend is $60,000, with an additional $2,500 for research and travel, and a one-time relocation allowance of $3,000 will also be provided. Renewal for the second year will be contingent upon the appointee’s performance in the first year.

- Transcript: An unofficial transcript can be submitted as part of the application. Please note that an official transcript clearly indicating conferral of a PhD degree will be required before an offer is made.
In addition, the first of the three named references should submit a letter of recommendation as an attachment to chao.center@rice.edu.
