The College of Saint Rose invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Professor of Asian history beginning August 2022. This is a full-time, tenure-track position.
Drawing from a long, robust learning tradition, the School of Arts & Humanities is a dynamic community of experienced and creative artists, musicians, writers, and researchers who prepare graduates to think critically, communicate effectively, and address the needs of our increasingly complex society.
The candidate will offer survey, special topics, and advanced seminar undergraduate courses for departmental program majors and the general student population. Core courses in our major programs (History BA, History and Political Science BA, Social Studies 7-12 Adolescent Ed) include:
- HIS 237 East Asian Civilizations to 1800
- HIS 239 Modern East Asia
- HIS 340 Late Imperial China
- HIS 342 Modern China
- HIS 339 Mao and the Chinese Revolution
- HIS 349 China and the World
Teaching load is 24 credits per year. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the continuing development and refinement of the major programs of the department of history and political science, engaging in scholarship, attending internal and external events applicable to the College and the candidate's academic discipline, academic advising, program assessment, curriculum development, and participation in Department, School, and College committees.
The successful candidate will have:
- A completed Ph.D. in History (or equivalent foreign degree) from an accredited institution by start date August 15, 2022.
- Specialization in modern Chinese history
- Prior teaching experience in history at the college level
