Kinder Junior Research Fellow in Atlantic History
Rothermere American Institute, 1a South Parks Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £33,309 - £40,927 p.a.
The Rothermere American Institute and the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri seek to appoint a stipendiary Junior Research Fellow in Atlantic History based at the University of Oxford. This post is intended to provide a promising early career scholar with a congenial environment for the development of his/her research and academic administration beyond the doctoral level.
As well as producing exceptional research at postdoctoral level for publication in books and articles, on any topic in Atlantic history, the Fellow will assist the Kinder Institute in the programme delivery of the University of Missouri’s MA in Atlantic History and Politics, which includes a summer study abroad component held in Oxford. The successful candidate will assist in curriculum development, logistical arrangements and teaching. The Fellow will also be encouraged to assist in the teaching of history to Oxford undergraduates for up to three hours per week.
This post is open to candidates whose research focuses on the political dimensions, broadly defined, of Atlantic history in any chronological period since 1600, including the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The successful applicant will hold a PhD/DPhil (either completed or near to completion) and further attributes required of the successful applicant include the potential for effective teaching and assistance with MA programme development, as well as plans for post-doctoral research of high quality.
If, for any reason, you have taken a career break or have had an atypical career and wish to disclose this in your application, the selection committee will take this into account, recognising that the quantity of your research may be reduced as a result. The selection committee will also be mindful of the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic may have had on candidates’ research as a result of library and archive closures and/or additional caring responsibilities and/or teaching responsibilities.
The post is fixed-term for 3 years and 3 months from 1 May 2022.
