The Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida invites applications for two lecturer appointments in the field of Citizenship and Civics. We are seeking dynamic individuals with demonstrated experience in student mentorship and in local, state, and/or national-based civic engagement, public leadership, and/or public service. The positions are twelve-month, non-tenure-accruing appointments, to be renewed on a year-to-year basis beginning Spring 2022, with an opportunity for advancement in UF’s Lecturer track. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package. These positions are open until filled, with the search committee beginning to review completed applications on January 7th, 2022.
A complete application includes (1) a letter of application summarizing the applicant's qualifications, interests, and suitability for the position, including experience in engaging, mentoring and working with undergraduates, especially as they pertain to the areas of civic engagement, public leadership, and public service; (2) a complete curriculum vitae; and (3) a statement on teaching experience, objectives, and potential courses; and (4) a list of three references who can address the applicant’s teaching capabilities, student advising and mentoring, and experience in civic engagement, public service, or public leadership. After initial review, applicants who are chosen to receive further consideration will be asked to request confidential letters of recommendation from the list of references.

In 2020, UF’s president signed the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and identified the Graham Center as the primary facilitator of civic engagement on UF’s campus. Through a variety of efforts, including establishing the non-partisan Gator Get Out The Vote Coalition, UF’s 2020 Voting Rate was 76.7%, compared to 66% at campuses across the nation. To continue strengthening civic and voter engagement on UF’s campus, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Serve as the Center’s Civic Engagement Coordinator, which may include, but is not limited to, the following: (25%)
- Implementing the Center’s non-partisan voter registration, voter education, and voter turnout initiatives, which includes coordinating with the Campus Vote Project Ambassadors, TurboVote, UF student government, off-campus entities, and leading the efforts of the Center’s Civic Engagement Cabinet and Gator Get-out-the-Vote Coalition.
- Coordinating tabling, presentation, and event opportunities.
- Coordinating and developing the Center’s community outreach initiatives, including speaking at K-12 and other educator events in Gainesville and throughout Florida.
- Collaborating on other student-led initiatives at the Center and advising student groups.
- Serve as the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Civic Literacy Coordinator to help ensure the University meets the new legislatively-mandated Civic Literacy Requirement, including working closely with the Political Science and History departments to support AMH2020: The United States since 1877 and POS2041: U.S. Federal Government. (25%)
- Advise and manage the College’s pre-law initiatives, including Mock Trial, and serve as the instructor of record for the associated course POS3679. (20%)
- Teach one course each fall, spring, and summer semester, related to civic engagement and/or public policy. This may include teaching the Center’s undergraduate civic engagement course, AMH2020, POS2041, the Center’s course in Florida politics connected to the Tallahassee Internship Program, relevant internship credits associated with the Center’s experiential learning initiatives, or other relevant topical courses. (25%)
- Perform other duties as assigned to help develop and further the mission and expand the reach of the Graham Center locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally. (5%)

The Bob Graham Center administers a variety of valuable experiential learning opportunities for UF students. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Serve as the Center’s Experiential Learning Coordinator, which may include, but is not limited to, the following (40%):
- Developing, managing, and coordinating the Center’s experiential learning opportunities and partnerships, such as UF’s Tallahassee Internship Program, UF’s Washington Internship Program, UF’s City of Gainesville Fellowship, and the College’s Beyond120 program. This includes coordination of placements and implementation of robust pre-departure training programs.
- Liaising with external experiential learning opportunities, such as The Washington Center and The Gubernatorial Fellows.
- Identifying and developing new experiential learning programs in partnership with the Center’s senior leadership team, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the broader University.
- Serving as the Center’s representative on the College’s Experiential Learning Committee.
- Serve as the program coordinator for the Center’s executive education initiatives, specifically the Florida Health Policy Leadership Academy, and work with Academy Director and Graham Center’s senior leadership team to manage major grants, projects, and deliverables. (25%)
- Teach one course each fall, spring, and summer semester, related to civic engagement and/or public policy. This may include teaching the Center’s undergraduate civic engagement course, AMH2020, POS2041, the Center’s course in Florida politics connected to the Tallahassee Internship Program, relevant internship credits associated with the Center’s experiential learning initiatives, or other relevant topical courses. (25%)
- Perform other duties as assigned to help develop and further the mission and expand the reach of the Graham Center locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally. (10%)
