Brown University invites applications for a 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in International Humanities, for a scholar of Modern East Asia in the World. This position is to be held jointly at the Cogut Institute for the Humanities and the Department of East Asian Studies, effective July 1, 2022. As an interdisciplinary department, East Asian Studies is open to a wide range of disciplinary scholarship that seeks to reexamine the cultural and historical connections linking the countries of East Asia with the rest of the world in the modern era (19th-21st centuries). The successful candidate will teach two courses per year in the Department of East Asian Studies, cross-listed in the Cogut Institute's Humanities course offerings. The fellow will also be affiliated with the Cogut Institute, is expected to participate in the weekly Tuesday seminars as well as other activities of the Institute, and will present a work-in-progress once each academic year of their residency. The stipend is $61,500, with an increase to $63,907 the second year, plus benefits and a research budget of $2,000 per year.
The PhD, from an institution other than Brown University, must be in hand by July 1, 2022 and must have been awarded in the last five years.
