The Department of History in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites applications for an associate or assistant (tenure-track) professor in the American Civil War Era (1850-1877) to start in August 2022. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. To be considered, candidates should have a strong record of research and publication and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. A candidate hired at the associate rank will be appointed to the Alumni Distinguished Chair. Scholars in all fields of Civil War Era U.S. history will be considered. The position carries a 2/2 teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two upper-level courses, “The American Civil War” and “Rebellion to Reconstruction, 1850-1877,” offer instruction in an area of specialization (all specialties are welcome), and direct research in the graduate and honors undergraduate programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in history; publications in Civil War Era history
- Documented commitment to excellence in teaching at the college level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced assistant rank or associate rank (with tenure) at current institution
- Nationally recognized publications in Civil War Era history
- Service at the national level to the field
- Documented excellence in teaching
