In addition to the educational requirements specified, the ideal candidate will have a record of scholarship in the candidate’s field(s) of expertise as well as a strong research plan for future scholarship appropriate for appointment to the Tenure Track. Experience teaching full-time at the University level is preferred, with an emphasis on engaged and active pedagogy. Candidates with training in explicitly interdisciplinary fields are strongly preferred.
Candidate must have a research doctorate or a foreign equivalent to a U.S. doctoral degree with expertise in interdisciplinary studies, preferably in American Studies. Specializations in Asian American or Latinx American Studies are especially invited. Additional expertise in an area related to one of the major’s 4 concentration areas (Sustainability and Environmental Studies; Diversity Studies; Global Studies; Health and Society) is desirable. The successful candidate will also have experience teaching at the college level; strong organizational skills, aptitude and desire to engage in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Experience in an administrative position in an academic program is a plus.
The successful candidate will serve as Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and as the Program Director of the College’s new Interdisciplinary Studies major. The successful candidate will teach the three core Interdisciplinary Studies courses within the major, as well as general education courses in relevant subject areas and/or relevant courses in the College of Humanities and Science’s other majors. The standard teaching load is 9 credits per semester with potential reductions for administrative roles.
