Assistant Professor of Geography, with an emphasis in Urban Geography

- An earned Ph.D. in Geography or related field with specialization in urban geography from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/18/2022).
- Expertise in one or more areas of urban planning, transportation geography, regional development, sustainable urban development, urban political ecology, and community engagement.
- Expertise in geographical information systems applications.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
- Evidence of an active record of research and scholarship.
1) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the graduate level.
2) Demonstrated or potential ability to engage students in service learning and/or civic learning projects.
3) Experience with GIS countermapping, critical GIS, and/or community-based GIS analysis.
4) Experience with qualitative research methods for data collection and research.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Geosciences and Environment is one of 12 departments within the College of Natural and Social Sciences, which supports academic programs for approximately 7,000 students. The department includes programs in Geography, Geology, and Environmental Science, with nearly 100 majors across our degree programs. In addition, we offer a post-baccalaureate certificate in Geographic Information Systems, and two new undergraduate GIS certificates that will begin in Fall 2022. Our geography alumni work in a variety of areas upon graduation, including positions in local government, transportation agencies, environmental organizations, GIS and surveying, and pursuing advanced degrees.
