The Department of History at the University of Southern Indiana (https://www.usi.edu/liberal-arts/history/) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History position beginning Fall 2022. Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree in History. Applicants with ABD status will be considered at the rank of Instructor if doctoral degree is not conferred by hire date in August 2022. The position will specialize in the United States during the 19th century with an emphasis on the comparative perspective of the Global South and/or Atlantic World. The Department is open to expertise in all themes, including (but not limited to) histories of trans-Atlantic enslavement, migration, religion, race, gender and sexuality, and empire.
Assistant Professors will be expected to actively participate in service to the department, college, and university.
The teaching load is 4/4 and teaching responsibilities will include:
- American surveys and upper division and graduate courses in United States history
Expectations may include:
- Development of engaging pedagogy and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Interdisciplinary course development (e.g., History, Gender Studies, Global Studies, and Africana Studies)
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarly potential
- Ability to work with and be sensitive to the education needs of a diverse student body
