Applications are invited for the permanent position of Curator and Director of the Whipple Museum of the History of Science. The Museum is integral to the Department of History and Philosophy of Science and houses an internationally important (Designated) collection of scientific instruments. The duties of the office include curatorial responsibility for the preservation, augmentation, and display of the collections of the Museum, and for making them available for purposes of study and research. The new Curator and Director is also expected to undertake museum-based teaching and/or general history and philosophy of science teaching in the Department, to an extent compatible with due performance of her or his curatorial duties. The post-holder would also be expected to conduct independent research in areas allied to the interests of the Department. Candidates should have substantial curatorial experience in history of science. Relevant teaching and research experience in the history and philosophy of science are also an advantage. The successful candidate should be able to take up the appointment on 1st October 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.
