Description
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of Houston seeks to hire a mid-career scholar (at the rank of Associate Professor) of global/non-Western film and media studies for our comparative World Cultures and Literatures undergraduate and graduate programs. We are especially interested in candidates with research and teaching expertise in cinema and media, digital culture, and/or non-cinematic media in one or more of the following areas: Latinx/Chicanx, Asian, African American or African diaspora studies, Queer studies, or Indigenous studies. We are also interested in candidates with a demonstrated engagement with one or more of the following areas: film theory, critical race theory, postcolonial studies, and gender studies. Advanced proficiency in a language other than English is a desirable qualification.
The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record in film and media, film and media theory, cultural studies and cultural production, in addition to having an excellent record in teaching and service at the university level. Qualifications
- PhD in literary or film studies, with a focus on one or more of the following areas: Latinx/Chicanx, Asian, African American or African diaspora studies, Queer studies, or Indigenous studies.
- Scholarly record that warrants appointment at the rank of Associate Professor
- Demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching
- Research and teaching interests that include visual culture, film, race, gender, and diaspora studies
