The College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenure possible upon appointment) of Indigenous Studies and Director of the Indigenous Studies Program. The position is open to qualified candidates with a doctoral degree or appropriate terminal degree. Possible fields of degree could be but are not limited to Indigenous Studies, History, English, Education, Social Work, Anthropology, Human Services, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, American Studies, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Law, Business, Health, Geography, Political Science, Women and Gender Studies, Fine and Performing Arts, or relevant disciplines, with an open tenure home. We are searching for an individual who has a strong interest in and skills appropriate to developing a certificate program into a minor and supporting our Indigenous Studies Program through campus leadership, curricular development, scholarship, outreach/recruitment, and student mentorship. Our Indigenous Studies Program is globally focused, yet for this position preference will be given to those candidates whose lived experience, knowledge, and research is centered on and with Indigenous communities of North America.
Responsibilities include acting as Director of the Indigenous Studies Program, which will entail overseeing an Indigenous Studies Certificate with the aim to develop a minor or major, developing and teaching relevant courses including an introductory Indigenous Studies course, maintaining a productive research agenda relevant to Indigenous Studies, advising and mentoring students, conducting appropriate service activities at Department, College, University, community, and professional levels, and assisting with community engagement.
