The Department of History at the George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track position in nineteenth-century US history, with a specialization in slavery, emancipation, and African American history to begin in Fall 2022. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the history of slavery and emancipation in the United States, a survey of African American history to 1865, and other subjects related to their own particular interests. In addition to participating in the life of the History Department, they will maintain an active institutional affiliation with the Africana Studies Program at GWU.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in US history, Africana Studies/African and African American Studies, American Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Applicants must have demonstrated significant research promise and teaching competence.
