The Department of History invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African American history beginning in Fall 2022. All specializations will be considered. The successful applicant will teach introductory and upper-level courses, including seminars, in their area of expertise. Opportunities will also be available to collaborate with the Department of Race, Intersectionality, Gender, and Sociology (RIGS) and interdisciplinary minors in Africana Studies, Latin American Studies, Gender and Diversity Studies, and others. The successful applicant will teach a 3/3 load.
Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities, including at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. In recent years, students have worked with the Cincinnati Museum Center, the Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education, coloredconventions.org, Harriet Beecher Stowe House, the Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, and King Records.

Requirements and Application
A PhD in History or a closely related discipline, such as African American Studies, is required by time of appointment.
