The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) seeks an excellent scholar and teacher for tenure-track appointment to the position of assistant professor of Bible. While the area of specialization within biblical studies is open, the successful candidate will have competence in methods of Jewish biblical interpretation from antiquity to the present. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda and a passion for teaching the varied student body at JTS, which includes undergraduate, graduate, education, rabbinical, and cantorial students. The successful candidate will be supportive of the academic, religious, and communal mission of JTS and willing to participate in the life of the institution. The ability to teach courses with Hebrew as language of instruction will enhance an application. Scholars from underrepresented populations are especially encouraged to apply as the Seminary strives to increase the diversity of its faculty to achieve its ethical and religious goals.
This tenure-track appointment, with an initial term of three years, begins July 1, 2022. Candidates must have PhD in hand by July 1, 2022 in order to take up the appointment.
