|Institution Type:||College / University|
|Position:||Tenure Track Faculty|
The University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of
Tenure-Track Professor of Cultures of Knowledge/Global Epistemologies (m/f/d)
to commence on or after October 01, 2022.
The position is within the Department of English and is one of four assistant professorships currently being hired in various fields in connection with the University’s ‘Global Encounters’ platform. Established as part of its Excellence Strategy, this platform examines the construction, reconstruction and restructuring of global networks. It focuses on the processes and practices of interdependency and communication, as well as the consequences such global encounters have for the formation of knowledge and communities, which are studied with regard to their decoloniality and their future sustainability. The Global Encounters platform brings together and supports researchers from different fields, to help them channel the growing dynamic at the University of Tübingen toward attracting major external funding for anything from collaborative centers to Clusters of Excellence.
This assistant professor will research and teach in the field of ‘Cultures of Knowledge / Global Epistemologies’ with a special focus on Africa and the African Diaspora and contribute to academic administration appropriately. Relevant Anglophone literatures and cultures as well as interdisciplinary qualifications are required, along with the potential to develop the field independently and working on broader perspectives in cooperation with the other Global Encounters assistant professors. Duties also include participation in developing the subject area and preparing proposals for the Global Encounters platform.
The post requires an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, focused on a theme relating to global encounters, as well as teaching experience. Competence in interdisciplinary research and transdisciplinary communication skills are especially advantageous. Experience of publications in peer-reviewed international journals as well as in securing and overseeing externally-funded projects are desirable.
The position has an initial teaching load of two courses per semester, i.e. four hours per week, prior to the interim evaluation, and three courses/six hours thereafter. Teaching (in English) will take place both in the literature and cultural studies units of Department of English degree programs and in the interdisciplinary degree programs of the Faculty of Humanities (MA Internationale Literaturen, MA Literatur- und Kulturtheorie, MA Cultures of the Global South).
This Tenure-Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position. Those who have already completed a habilitation will be excluded from consideration for the position.
Applicants for a Tenure-Track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia and/or research for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.
More information about the academic integration of the post, about the Global Encounters platform and the precise criteria on which the interim and final evaluations are based can be found along with the general quality assurance plan at the following link: https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/12131 Information about the job category can also be found there.
The University seeks to increase the number of international professors and therefore welcomes applications from researchers outside Germany (here in particular from the Global South). The University is also interested in increasing the number of women in research and teaching and therefore also strongly encourages women to apply. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.
Applications including all required documents (curriculum vitae and description of academic career, copies of certificates, list of publications and own monographs and up to 5 papers, details of teaching experience, summary of the research focus, concept for an interdisciplinary research program) should be sent in by October 31, 2021, preferably in PDF format.
