Full Professorship (W3) “Society, Culture and Communication in Ibero-America” (f/m/d)
to be appointed as soon as possible.
This professorship represents a field of research that focuses on the analysis and interpretation of society and culture in the macro-region of Ibero-America. The future position holder is expected to conduct research on dynamics of socio-cultural change in the region with a specialization on Latin America and a disciplinary background in the social sciences.
The professorship is based at the interdisciplinary Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS). The future position holder will be a member of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. S/he will be held to the regulations for academic self-administration, teaching, and examination.
Candidates should have an outstanding international research profile in sociological, political, or economic analyses of culture and society in Latin America. The successful candidate should have demonstrated knowledge in empirical and comparative methods. Her/his research should be connected to and supplement the work of established groups at the HCIAS in the field of societal communication. S/he will establish a line of research at the HCIAS and the university’s regional academic platform, the Heidelberg Center Latin America (HCLA) in Santiago de Chile. S/he should have demonstrable experience in establishing disciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects and is expected to implement novel collaborative projects at both locations of the university’s regional focus. S/he should also have experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and in knowledge transfer.
It is expected that the successful candidate participates in study and doctoral programs in Ibero-American studies, and that s/he plays a leading role in joint grant applications at the HCIAS. The candidate should have outstanding publication and research records, and experience in teaching in English. Profound knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese is expected. Some functions of the position may be carried out on site in Santiago de Chile.
Prerequisites for application are a university degree, an excellent PhD and successful teaching experience. A habilitation or equivalent qualification (comparable to tenure requirements at international research universities) is an additional requirement (in accordance with article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg).
