New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the history of the United States. Candidates who can contribute to this goal through their research, teaching, mentoring, or service as well as candidates who are underrepresented in the American professoriate are particularly encouraged to apply.
Specialization is open, with a preference for candidates whose work will contribute to interdisciplinary programs at the college (for example, Africana Studies, Asian Studies, Caribbean/Latin American Studies, Environmental Studies, Gender Studies, International and Area Studies, Urban Studies). PhD required by August 2022, when employment begins. Candidates should have a record of research, teaching, or service that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The successful candidate will teach a two-term sequence in American history, offer additional courses and tutorials in their areas of interest, and supervise senior theses. In addition to teaching, they will maintain an active research agenda and engage in service to the college and the community.
Situated on Sarasota Bay along the Gulf of Mexico, New College is the nationally recognized honors college of the State University System of Florida. A small, innovative liberal arts institution, New College offers an individualized and student-centered curriculum where students receive narrative evaluations in lieu of grades.
