Position: The History Department at Augustana University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in twentieth-century American history with an emphasis in Public History. This position will start in late August 2022. Desired subfields include gender, race, or environmentalism. A Ph.D. in American history or closely related field by the time of appointment is expected.
Duties: The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarly activity. Teaching load is 3-1-3 with every third January off. Teaching responsibilities will include a regular rotation of the American history surveys, upper division courses in the candidate’s area of interest, and an introductory course in Public History. As do other department members, the candidate will also regularly teach a topic of their choice in the university-wide First Year Seminar and/or a section of Western Civilization.
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
