The Department of History at the University of Connecticut welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in U.S History at the Stamford campus. Strong preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in Environmental History, Labor History, and/or History of Capitalism. We also welcome candidates with experience in Digital History.
The successful candidate will teach 4 courses per year at the Stamford campus, including both halves of the US history survey and advanced undergraduate courses in their area of interest. The candidate will share a deep commitment to effective and inclusive instruction and mentoring for a diverse student population. They may occasionally teach a graduate course in their area of interest at the Storrs campus in lieu of one Stamford course. Development of a strong, ongoing research trajectory through high-quality publications, engagement in service, and outreach activities will also be expected.
The Department of History has 42 tenure-stream faculty members, 40 graduate students, and 300 undergraduate majors (https://history.uconn.edu). UConn Stamford is an urban campus at the center of Fairfield County’s robust business community and 45 minutes from New York by train. The campus serves 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including many first-generation college students. It offers 14 undergraduate majors, including business administration, digital media and design, computer science, and history.

- Ph.D. in History or related field (or international equivalent) by August 2022

The university seeks candidates with some or all of the following qualifications:
- Potential for teaching undergraduate courses in environmental history.
- Strong record of refereed publications
- Success in securing extramural funding
- Experience in teaching and/or mentoring first-generation, non-traditional, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) college students.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022. The teaching load includes two courses per semester. The successful candidate’s primary appointment will be at the Stamford campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
