The History Department at Pomona College invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of US history from colonial period to 1860, with a specialization in African American and/or Native American history. The teaching commitment is four courses per year over two semesters of instruction. The successful candidate will teach the first course of the U.S. history survey, as well other courses related to the field and their expertise. A Ph.D. in hand or expected by July 2022 is required.

Pomona College, located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges, which also include Claremont McKenna, Scripps, Pitzer, Harvey Mudd, and Claremont Graduate University. Collectively, the Claremont Colleges constitute an academic community of 6,000 students. As a result, Pomona students enjoy both the personalized instruction and close faculty-student interactions afforded by a small liberal arts college as well as the intellectual and extracurricular resources typically found at much larger universities. Pomona's History department has 12 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty and there are over 30 History faculty across the Claremont colleges. In collaboration with the Claremont Colleges Consortium, Pomona College offers a variety of professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities for junior faculty including the opportunity for entering assistant professors to apply for a fully funded leave in their fourth year at the College.
