The History Department at the University of Denver invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the history of the Black Diaspora in the Americas (1600-1800). The appointment for this position is intended to begin in September 2022. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is engaged with the early Atlantic world. Although our department allows faculty to create course rosters focused on their teaching interests, we hope to attract applicants who are excited to teach courses in early North American history. We are also interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service. This includes candidates from underrepresented groups, those who have experience working with diverse student populations, and those with experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy.
Essential Functions
The successful candidate will teach a range of introductory- and upper-level courses to history majors and the undergraduate population at DU. The successful candidate will also guide undergraduate theses on a broad variety of topics related to the candidates field of expertise.
Required Qualifications
- ABD, with a Ph.D. in History, Africana Studies, American Studies, or African American Studies, or other relevant discipline required by Summer 2022.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D.
- University teaching experience.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$80,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
