2 Posts at Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer levels available in the Department of History at Rhodes University (South Africa). One is a permanent post and the other one is a contract post from 2021 to December 2025.

A PhD in History or a cognate discipline is required for applicants applying at Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer levels. Candidates should have experience in teaching and researching in the disciplinary areas of the Social, Political and Cultural History of Africa. The ability to teach Gender Studies and/or Latin American and Caribbean Studies would be an advantage. Ability to teach through blended learning would be a further advantage.
Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required including Masters and PhD levels. Research supervision of Masters and PhD degrees to completion required.

Tutoring, practical facilitation and some teaching experience required. Ability to teach and research in the disciplinary areas of the Social, Political and Cultural History of Africa required. The ability to teach Gender Studies and/or Latin American and Caribbean Studies would be an advantage. Ability to teach through blended learning would be a further advantage. No research supervision required. Candidates with supervision experience would be an advantage.

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations), international staff members (non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. In line with legislation governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.

Associate Professor Level:
Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R654 471 per annum
Approximate cost to company: R928 263 per annum
Senior Lecturer Level:
Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R549, 913 per annum
Approximate cost to company: R782,562 per annum
Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R455, 373 per annum
Approximate cost to company: R641, 258 per annum
