Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in early U.S. History (1776 to 1877) with a specialty in African American history for 2021-2022, with possibility of renewal for the subsequent academic year.
The position requires teaching at least two introductory courses, including African Diaspora in the U.S. to 1877 and U.S. History to 1865 in Fall 2021; African Diaspora in the U.S. since 1877 should be offered in Spring 2022; the remaining two courses will reflect the visiting professor’s specialties and will likewise be offered in Spring 2022. Advising senior theses is also expected.
Ph.D. preferred; ABD will be considered. Candidates with some expertise in Atlantic or global history will be preferred. Evidence of teaching experience and teaching excellence are also required. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the College’s goal of improving higher education for underrepresented students. For matters other than the submission of material, contact Corey Tazzara, Chair, History Search Committee, at ctazzara@scrippscollege.edu. Review of applications will begin April 1, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.
