The Department of History at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Early Modern Europe and the World to begin August 1, 2021.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- PhD in history. Individuals who are “all but dissertation” (ABD) will be considered; however, the degree must be awarded within twelve months of the first semester of employment.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an active scholarly agenda.
- Ability to teach the introductory survey course in pre-1400 world history (i.e., HIST 1110). Ability to teach the second half of the world survey (i.e., HIST 1120) also desirable.
- Ability to teach survey and advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization (Europe and the world, with the period broadly defined as 1350-1800).
- Ability to teach historical methods courses (i.e., HIST 2100 and HIST 4020).
- Willingness and ability to engage in alternative modes of instruction, including online.
- Willingness to assist the UTC campus in reaching the goals specified in UTC’s Strategic Plan, including advancing diversity and inclusion.

Chattanooga, the fourth largest city in the state, is located in Southeast Tennessee near the border of Georgia at the junction of four interstate highways.
