The History Department at The University of the South, commonly known as Sewanee, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Modern Asian History (excluding the history of South Asia) to begin in August 2021. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses per year including survey classes on the history of Asia and/or on the history of individual Asian countries, as well as upper-level classes on their area of specialization. Candidates with a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment are preferred. Applicants who work on immigration and refugee studies; race, ethnicity, and nationalism; science, technology, and the environment; or transnationalism and globalization are particularly encouraged to apply.
