About the Position:
The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Oklahoma (OU), the flagship public research university in the state of Oklahoma (Carnegie Classification R1), seeks a scholar of race and religion with a specialization in Black religious experience. We invite applications at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in August 2021. A completed PhD in Religious Studies or related discipline prior to the position start date is preferred, but consideration will be given to ABD candidates. We welcome a variety of methodological perspectives and geographical/temporal foci. The ideal candidate will show evidence of promise for a robust research agenda along with the ability and desire to collaborate with existing faculty in Religious Studies (https://www.ou.edu/cas/rels/faculty-and-staff/faculty#internal) and across the university, including members of the Department of African and African-American Studies (https://www.ou.edu/cas/afam/faculty-staff).
With a 2/2 teaching load, the successful candidate will offer undergraduate courses in their area of expertise in addition to core courses in the department, including introductory general education classes in religious studies. Salary, benefits, and start-up funds are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
